  1. Restaurant Sales to Hit $799B in 2017

  1. Tipping: The Latest

Restaurant employers were granted a 45-day extension to institute changes to mandatory tip pooling while decisions were made at the Supreme Court. Previously, the deadline for changes was Dec. 5, 2016.  It was then moved to Jan. 19, 2017. Currently, that deadline is still extended for up to two months from that date. Rather than dieting, consumers are seeking out fresh, organic or GMO-free foods, according to research from data firm The NPD Group. “Consumer attitudes toward health today have evolved beyond diet, exercise, and the specific attributes (presence or absence) of food items,” said Darren Seifer, NPDs food and beverage industry analyst.  NPD says consumers want to patronize brands that support causes that are aligned with their values, such as sustainability or animal welfare.  Click here for the full story: https://goo.gl/AEuDrG

The semi-finalists have been selected by a committee that were whittled down from tens of thousands of nominations submitted online, as well as by a panel of more than 600 judges from around the country. Those judges include members of the food media, as well as past winners.
